About Me
|
|
I think of basketry not only as a craft, but also an art, creating pieces that do not have to have a function other than to please the senses, mainly sculpture and wall art.
Primarily, I work with natural materials, but every now and again I go back to my roots. I grew up in Africa, and have always been fascinated by the incredible use of natural fibres, and recycling of man-made items; the use of vibrant colours and bold patterns.
In July 2007 I completed a 4 year City
and Guilds Course, in London, in Creative Basketry, taught by some of the leading
basketmakers in the UK. I am a member of the Basketmakers Association, The Visual Images Group,
Basketry Plus, the Oxfordshire Basketmakers and an associate member of the Oxfordshire Craft Guild.

Some of these pieces were commissioned, some were inspired
by nature, but all were created to have no specific purpose other than to
please the senses.

These pieces all draw on my time in Africa, some using
natural materials, others recycled; some using muted natural colours,
others bold and vivid colours and patterns. Some are functional,
others just for pleasure.

Living Willow Structures add an extra dimension to
children’s play areas, encouraging wildlife, and teaching children to
nurture nature. Adults get equal pleasure from living sculptures and
structures!
